Project label: Free crochet pattern / beginner-friendly color play.
A crochet flower garland is an easy way to bring color to a craft room, nursery wall, party table, or seasonal mantel. This version uses small five-petal flowers joined to a simple chain cord. You can make all flowers the same or rotate coral, teal, white, butter yellow, and pink for a more playful look.
Materials
- DK cotton in flower colors plus green or white for the cord
- 3.5 mm hook
- Yarn needle and scissors
- Measuring tape
Abbreviations
- ch = chain
- sc = single crochet
- dc = double crochet
- tr = treble crochet
- sl st = slip stitch
Gauge and size
Each flower is about 2.25 inches wide. A 36-inch garland uses 9 flowers spaced about 3 inches apart.
Instructions
- Make 9 flowers using the five-petal flower method: 10 sc in a center ring, then 5 petals worked over pairs of stitches.
- Weave in all flower ends except one center tail if you want extra sewing security.
- Cord: with green or white, ch 25 for the first hanging tail.
- Hold the first flower behind the chain. Insert the hook through the top back of one petal, yarn over, and sl st through both flower and chain.
- Ch 14 between flowers, attaching each flower with one sl st through the back of a petal.
- After the last flower, ch 25 for the second hanging tail. Fasten off and knot both ends.
Finishing and color notes
If the garland twists, attach each flower through the same relative petal and block the cord straight.
For seasonal versions, use yellow and white for spring, coral and teal for summer, rust and cream for autumn, or navy and white for winter.
