Project label: Free crochet pattern / beginner-friendly color play.
This wall hanging is a fast seasonal decoration that does not require complicated shaping. It starts as a striped rectangle, then gets a fringe and a hanging cord. Change the palette to match the season: coral and yellow for summer, teal and white for winter, or warm orange and navy for autumn.
Materials
- Worsted cotton or acrylic yarn in 4 colors
- 5 mm hook
- Wooden dowel or smooth stick, about 10 inches wide
- Yarn needle, scissors, ruler
Abbreviations
- ch = chain
- sc = single crochet
- hdc = half double crochet
- sl st = slip stitch
- st/sts = stitch/stitches
Gauge and size
Finished rectangle is about 8 by 10 inches before fringe. Gauge is flexible, but the fabric should not be too loose.
Instructions
- Ch 32. Row 1: hdc in the second ch from hook and each ch across. Count: 31 hdc.
- Rows 2-6: work coral. Rows 7-11: work butter yellow. Rows 12-16: work white. Rows 17-21: work teal.
- Top sleeve: fold the top edge over the dowel by about 1 inch and whipstitch it on the wrong side, or crochet around the dowel with sc if preferred.
- Fringe: cut 24 strands about 12 inches long. Attach two strands to every other stitch along the bottom edge.
- Trim fringe into a shallow V shape or straight line.
- Hanging cord: ch 40, tie each end to the dowel, and weave in tails.
Finishing and color notes
Add surface slip stitch lines in deep navy if you want more graphic contrast.
Do not hang heavy beads from the bottom unless the dowel and sleeve are strong enough to hold them.
