Project label: Free crochet pattern / beginner-friendly color play.
This bandana is worked from the lower point upward, so you can stop when it fits. Alternating coral, teal, white, and butter yellow rows create a cheerful accessory without complex shaping. The tie edge is added at the end and can be lengthened for adults or shortened for a smaller fit.
Materials
- DK cotton or bamboo-cotton yarn in 3 to 4 colors
- 4 mm hook
- Yarn needle, scissors, measuring tape
- Two stitch markers for the top corners
Abbreviations
- ch = chain
- sc = single crochet
- dc = double crochet
- st/sts = stitch/stitches
- sp = space
Gauge and size
Gauge is flexible. After 10 rows the triangle should measure about 7 inches wide. Finished sample is about 17 to 19 inches across before ties.
Instructions
- Ch 4. Row 1: work 4 dc in the fourth ch from hook. Turn.
- Row 2: ch 3, 2 dc in first st, dc across, 3 dc in last st. Turn.
- Row 3: ch 3, 2 dc in first st, dc across, 3 dc in last st. Change color at the end of the row.
- Repeat Row 3, changing color every 2 rows, until the top edge is the width you want.
- Edging: ch 1, sc evenly along the two slanted sides and across the top, placing 2 sc in each top corner.
- Ties: at the first top corner, ch 45, sl st back along the chain, then sc across the top edge. At the second corner, ch 45 and sl st back. Fasten off.
Finishing and color notes
Try a coral point, teal middle, butter yellow top, and navy edging for a stronger graphic look.
A bandana should drape, not feel stiff. If your fabric is dense, go up half a hook size.
This is an original practical pattern draft for crocheters to make, adapt, and swatch. Check your own gauge, yarn label, and finished measurements before making multiples.
